Metabolic Studio is pleased to announce its latest exhibition, Underland, at PRJCTLA in downtown Los Angeles at the foot of the 6th St. Bridge overlooking the LA River. Underland explores the entanglements that exist below the surface in urban environments. This exhibition borrows its title from Robert Macfarlane’s book, Underland, and points to our infrastructural art work, Bending the River, that is currently under construction. In this work, we have pierced the concrete floor of the LA River to lay pipes which will redirect a small portion of the river flow making use of water that would otherwise have been flushed out to sea. In this process we have discovered, underneath, the bustling understory that exists beneath what is normally considered the floor of the city.
